Reimagine Our Ocean, World Ocean Day 2026 at Adaaran Select Meedhupparu

Adaaran Select Meedhupparu celebrated World Ocean Day 2026 on 8 June under the theme Reimagine Our Ocean. Set in the heart of Raa Atoll, the day brought together guests and team members for a meaningful celebration of marine conservation, ocean awareness, and shared responsibility.
The morning began with a Desert Island Beach Clean-Up Expedition, where guests and team members travelled by dhoni to a nearby uninhabited island. Guided by the Water Sports and Dive Point teams, participants collected and segregated waste from the shoreline, which was then returned to the resort for proper disposal. The activity created a strong sense of purpose and connection, reminding everyone that protecting the ocean begins with simple, collective action.
In the evening, the resort hosted Ocean Night at the Water Sports Centre, welcoming in-house guests to a beautifully decorated beach venue inspired by a Blue and White Ocean Theme. Manta ray and sea turtle sand art displays added to the atmosphere, while the event encouraged guests to learn more about the marine world surrounding Meedhupparu.
Marine conservation presentations were led by Fabiana, the resort’s Marine Biologist, and Karo, Dive Point Base Leader. Their sessions opened meaningful conversations on reef conservation, responsible diving, and the resort’s ongoing marine initiatives. Guests were also invited to capture memories at the “I Protected the Ocean at Meedhupparu” photo booth, creating a fun and engaging way to share their support for ocean protection.
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of Mrs. Fung, a beloved 11-time repeater guest of Adaaran Select Meedhupparu. At 89 years old, with more than 1,500 dives to her name, Mrs. Fung first began diving at the age of 65. She was welcomed as Guest of Honour and presented with a special souvenir, receiving a heartfelt standing ovation from guests and team members.
Her story was a moving reminder of the deep and lasting bond people can form with the ocean. Recognised with the KAN’DU RAANEE Award, Mrs. Fung’s journey continues to inspire everyone who believes in the beauty, power, and importance of marine life.
World Ocean Day 2026 at Adaaran Select Meedhupparu was more than a celebration. It was a reminder that the ocean is a living world, a source of discovery, and a shared responsibility. Through clean-ups, education, guest engagement, and meaningful stories, the resort continues to encourage everyone to protect paradise together.
