Adaaran Select Meedhupparu Marks World Ozone Day with Coral Planting Initiative

22 September 2025

On 16th September 2025, Adaaran Select Meedhupparu celebrated World Ozone Day with a meaningful coral plantation activity that brought together guests, staff, and visiting families in a shared commitment to the ocean. Set in the heart of the Raa Atoll, renowned for its vast biodiversity and thriving marine ecosystems, the event highlighted the region’s unique ecological value. Among the participants was Raj Baddhan, CEO of Lyca Radio Network, the UK’s largest Asian commercial radio network, who joined hands in helping restore the reef.

Under the island’s clear skies and calm seas, participants planted coral fragments on the resort’s house reef, adding new life to one of the Maldives’ most precious ecosystems. For many, it was not only a hands-on conservation experience but also an inspiring way to connect more deeply with the natural environment.

The event reflects Adaaran Select Meedhupparu’s wider sustainability efforts, from reef conservation and marine education to eco-tourism initiatives that allow guests to actively contribute to preserving the Maldives’ biodiversity. Snorkeling at the resort is already a guest favourite, offering encounters with turtles, colourful reef fish, and corals just steps from the shore. By pairing such immersive activities with awareness programmes, the resort ensures visitors leave with both treasured memories and a stronger understanding of the fragile marine world.

Speaking about the event, Raj Baddhan shared, “This was such a unique and meaningful way to mark World Ozone Day. Adaaran are known for their dedication to sustainability, and it was wonderful to experience this first-hand. The resort’s conservation efforts are truly inspiring, and I look forward to returning in six months to see how the coral I helped plant has grown.”

With coral reefs supporting nearly a quarter of marine life worldwide, initiatives like this play a vital role in protecting ocean ecosystems. By leading with action, Adaaran Select Meedhupparu continues to demonstrate that tourism can go hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship, ensuring that the natural beauty of the Maldives is preserved for generations to come.
